When the Condominium Association Institute ("CAI") local chapter was looking for an expert on flooring for their Professional Information Exchange ("PIE") meetings in Annandale, VA and Bethesda, MD this week, they came to Commercial Carpets of America's Ralph Grove, CCA's Commercial Group Manager, 12-year industry veteran, and holder of the prestigious Certified Flooring Executive ("CFE") designation from the World Floor Covering Association, for help.
As John LeVan, General Manager of Sterling, Virginia's Belfor USA explained, "As the Industry Expert, your role is to lead the discussion by starting off…with a brief overview, followed by fielding questions from the group." LeVan went on to suggest topics covering "life cycle costing, quality grades of flooring, typical replacement cycles, annual maintenance to extend flooring life, and new ideas in flooring and maintenance."
With the help of CCA Contract Specialist, Sharon Johnson, Ralph addressed those topics with a visual presentation that also outlined the keys to successful floor covering selection and introduced new resilient products from Nora rubber and ECOsurfaces recycled rubber flooring. Flooring challenges, solutions, and a variety of successful installations were graphically illustrated and sparked a lively discussion about the best ways to handle problem areas like elevators, and entrances to bath or pool areas. There was agreement that long-term value could only be assured if the right selection of products was made at the outset; that proper and timely maintenance would extend the useful life of all floor coverings. As Ralph remarked when talking about selecting products and flooring companies, "You don't always get what you pay for from some and you don't always pay for what you get from others."
