Commercial Carpets of America (“CCA”) now features the BioCel™ polyurethane backing system in all of its carpet with Everbond attached cushion, as part of its GSA contract product offering. This is being made available to GSA at no added cost in cooperation with Patcraft Commercial Carpet. BioCel™ is a new compound developed by Universal Textile Technologies for use in their high-performance polyurethane backing systems. It is a combination of BioBalance™ polymers and Celceram™.
Celceram™ is a recovered green component that stabilizes and toughens the polyurethane compound and is a product of coal combustion in electrical utility power plants. BioBalance™ polymers are those that feature polyols coming from soybeans. This potent combination, along with a post-consumer secondary backing, offer significant percentages of recycled and sustainable components that range up to 65% “green” by weight. As a result, the BioCel™ backing system will contribute to the total building materials requirement for rapidly renewable materials and will help earn LEED points under Version 2.0 of the LEED guidelines.
According to Dave Stafford, Vice President of CCA, “Offering BioCel™ is one more step in CCA’s commitment to provide the finest carpet and resilient products based on renewable resources and recycled content.” CCA currently has three GSA Contracts featuring Patcraft and Designweave carpet, Forbo linoleum, and Nora rubber flooring and stair treads; all contracts offer optional installation. CCA’s niche is providing a package of high quality products and complete, certified installation.
